Welcome to Shiralee Stitches. I live on a cattle farm in Australia with my family.
I am passionate about all things fabric so much so I started my own online and mobile store. Link is on the sidebar to my store. I teach patchwork classes and take my shop to quilting and patchwork groups and also attend various craft markets.
I love English Paper Piecing, applique, machine quilting, working with woven wools. I have started making my own designs which I love.

...NOT a kit this time....woo hoo....

I so often see a quilt I love and lack the confidence to think I can choose the fabrics to have the same effect as the one I admire so much, but recently inspired by Bec's Butterfly Garden, and a local friends progress on hers (yes you, Trish!!!), I wanted to make it myself. I decided I would take the plunge and buy the fabrics, resisting purchasing a kit. .....So.....in Sydney at the Craft Fair, with Mum's help we picked out
(or more like agonised over!!!!) a range of fabrics.........
......here's the result when I had a play with them yesterday, and laid out the first block..........

...............I am extremely pleased with the result...........
.......what do you think???..........so soft and pretty with the butterflies standing out.....just as I pictured it....

You wouldn't believe how looong it took me 'playing' to choose the fabrics etc.....but what fun it was......

I have my templates all ready, bags made up for all 9 blocks with some fabrics already slotted into them to provide some balance across the quilt....
...........soo much fun.........I can see lots more of this fabric play from my sewing room....I'm turning my back on the kit idea I think....
.....I CAN do it......yey........
Have you been playing with fabric in your sewing space???????

Love what you have picked - you did a great job picking just the right fabrics! Looks a lot like one made from a kit I have seen somewhere.
You are much better than me at it, I could never pick so many different fabrics, a couple for a small project...yes, but so much for a big quilt....would be a big challenge LOL

Looks great... I hate trying to pick fabrics. I take too long. Love what you've picked.

You've done a wonderful job of selecting fabrics. You CAN do it! I have this one as another of my long-suffering WIP's, I really must get on with it. Like Kate, I need a couple of extra days in the week. lol

I'm the same way, except instead of buying a kit, I'd use one range of fabric. I figured the designer had already worked out the co-ordination angle.
I am the daughter of a dressmaker, but did not inherit her sewing talent or ability to see colour. BTW She's amazed at what I have made, but really it is just straight sewing, nothing tricky.
I'm yet to challenge myself like you have, but maybe soon. I hope to get on the new SAL or at least watch/join in from the side lines. I want to try picking the fabric for that one myself.
You have done a great job with this quilt. It will look great.
