Welcome to Shiralee Stitches. I live on a cattle farm in Australia with my family.
I am passionate about all things fabric so much so I started my own online and mobile store. Link is on the sidebar to my store. I teach patchwork classes and take my shop to quilting and patchwork groups and also attend various craft markets.
I love English Paper Piecing, applique, machine quilting, working with woven wools. I have started making my own designs which I love.

Just made it!!!!!.........

The stitch-a-long deadline is very close, like a night away!!!!......so I have been sewing helter skelter and finally have a completed quilt top to share....whew....(wiping brow!!!)

Sadly work and play have interrupted the finishing schedule so sandwiching, quilting and binding will be on hold for now.

.......so......drum roll please...........here 'tis........my Some Kind of Wonderful quilt top.....

I have enjoyed all the applique, although needleturning is so very time consuming, but I am pleased with the result.......

My friend and stitch-a-long 'supervisor' (whip cracker!!!!) will be very pleased to hear of this quilt top finish as many who started with the SAL in the beginning are a long way from the finish line......

I have been up to Brisbane for the Craft Fair since I last posted....and.....um......well......there was some damage, of the $$$$ kind if you get my drift!!!!!........oh well......I am sure they were all necessary purchases.....I'm quite sure!!!!!!!.......more of that to follow........

Out with the winter blues.......hello SPRING..........

The second half of winter has been one full of illness for myself and family, so bring on this lovely spring season, I say!!!!

Getting to the computer has obviously fallen by the wayside, so I hope to catch up with all the blogging news very soon.

I have been busy working on a project I started ages ago........I had wanted to master applique on the sewing machine and didn't get off to a good start so it ended up in a drawer........well I have had a go......not sure if you could say that I've mastered the machining but I'm pretty happy with the results.

The design is a William Morris inspired applique wallhanging from one of Michelle Hill's amazing books.
.....a closer look at the blocks.........

........I have hand worked the flowers to add depth, and a touch of metallic if you look closely.......

..............I love the Morris designs, and have wanted to try one of these projects since meeting and watching Michelle in Sydney last year.......

............I intend to cross hatch the quilting in a metallic thread on the machine, fingers crossed!!!!!.........

Oh and along with lots of other bloggy friends I have just joined Chookyblues Secret Santa Swap for Christmas.....my second year.......I am so excited, I have been given a blogging lady from an overseas country to create a gift for, and somewhere out there in bloggy space, someone will have been given my name to make for me!!!!............hmm, now to visit the blog of my recipient to find out as much about them as possible so I can make something they will like.............see ya..........I'm off to 'lurk'....hehe.........

I Promised an Angel......or 2....of the fabric kind.....

After all the inspiration given by Anni Downs at the Girls day in the Country at Nundle earlier this year, Bec tells me she went home to begin her 'An Angels Story' quilt designed by Anni years ago. She asked me to post some photos of my version of this lovely quilt so her inspiration could  be further fuelled......I took this quilt to Nundle to share it with Anni, so some of you have seen it.
I made this years ago for my daughter who had it on her bed for a long time until she outgrew it. Anni published this quilt in a book with other matching projects.....hence the cushions to match.
All the Angels have names......Pot Plant Penelope.....Millicent the Magnificent Mum......
Best Friends Zoe and Prudence....Fran's Flying School......
Hettie at the Hat Shop..........Tillie the Tea Lady.........
I just loved bringing all the Angels to life.....

I actually hand quilted this whole quilt, just like Anni's original.....now that I have practised machine quilting more now, I'm not sure I would embark on that huge job if I was quilting it today....
This quilt now hangs over a  wrought iron stand in my bedroom, along with other quilts I've made.
Thanks for sharing my angels with me.....it's fun to take a trip down memory lane......I'll drag out some more "oldies" soon.......if you want to see them.......

A New Bag....For Sewing ...

I was so inspired when I met Anni Downs at GDITC, that I decided I needed to get busy and finish this bag that I started some time ago.
It is called "Sewing Store", and this is a close-up of the applique and stitchery....
I chose this ticking fabric as the lining....
I plan to use this bag to cart all my sewing treasures to and from craft group on Thursdays, and also to load all my purchases in when I visit the craft shows.
